Beyond Travel Creel

Beyond Travel Creel I spend most of my time working with Trout Unlimited. At the local and national level I work with youth programs, fundraising, and events that all support TU’s Message.

My Biggest project is serving as the host, and editor of TU’s largest podcast, Emerging. Our goal with Emerging and 5 Rivers is to create positive change within the fishing community and beyond by amplifying intelligent, diverse, and positive voices. We are excited to share conservation experiences, fishing stories, outdoor adventures, and so much more.

Joe Tardif

Host + Curator of a good time

Working with Travel Creel is a dream for me. Like all of our team members, fishing, food, and caring for those around us are extremely important to me. I grew up in Boston, MA, and some of my earliest fishing memories come from chasing striped bass on the beaches of southern Maine.

One of my favorite striper stories is one my dad tells, since I was too young to remember it myself. I was fishing on the beach by my grandmother’s house, and my family and I had caught a few nice fish, smaller but fun as always. After some time, my parents headed back to the house to prepare for a rather fancy dinner they were hosting for neighbors.

Just as the guests arrived, likely right when dinner was supposed to be ready, a young Joe came sprinting up to the house with a massive striped bass, slot sized luckily, beyond excited and determined to “keep ’em! and Eat ‘em!”

My Passion from cooking started immediately after I harvested my first deer when I wan in 8th grade. I had grown up looking up to Bear Grills, and Steve Rinella whom both have made living off of catching miscellaneous creatures and cooking them on TV. When I shot this deer most of my family did not have any interest in trying the venison I had brought home- so I somewhat had to figure it out on my own. This experience led me to being a “Kill-etarian” for 6 years and only ate fish or mean that I had harvested myself. Why did I stop? I joined Travel Creel for my first trip and couldn’t resist…
