RAINBOW TROUT
rain-bo-trout /ˌreɪn.boʊ ˈtraʊt/
This native fish dominates the river, with more than 5,000 per mile stretch of river surveyed.
Tagging efforts have contributed to loads of interesting facts about this population.
These hungry fish are ready to eat hatching bugs, providing anglers with explosive, dry fly eats.
Fall River Rainbow’s are unique given their unusually long spawning season.
Scientists have found two distinct, co-mingling Rainbow Trout populations in the Fall River:
Trout that spawn in the spring-fed tributaries
Trout that spawn in the rainfall-affected Bear Creek.
BROWN TROUT
br-own-trout /braʊn traʊt/
First stocked in this underground spring-fed river (the largest in the U.S.) prior to the 1970’s, this species has reproduced enough times to be considered genetically WILD.
Make up a mere 5-7% of the total fish in this river.
Throw streamers to hook a brown during the June Hex hatch - not dry flies.
Average size 12-18 inches here, with trophy fish as big as 8 lbs/25 inches around!

MAY-JUNE
This transition phase from Spring to Summer brings many diverse hatches to the river.
This river is fed from an underground spring, making the water clear, and cold, all year.
Heavy Pale Morning Dun (PMD) spinner falls occur in the mornings during this window, bringing large fish to the surface to eat.
Blue-Winged Olive (BWO) Mayfly hatch abounds on overcast days.
Anglers who join us in June will also get to experience the Hexagenia (Hex) hatch, which brings MASSIVE Mayflies that require large dry fly patterns:
