Snook

  • Snook are a fish of edges. Mangrove lines, shadowed docks, and moving tides hold these fish. They don’t cruise open water like other flats species. They sit, wait, and strike with intent. You’ll usually find them where current pushes bait, especially during low light when they feel most comfortable sliding out of cover.

  • Fishing for snook is all about placement. Casts need to land tight—sometimes uncomfortably tight to structure, with baitfish or shrimp patterns that move naturally with the water. Give them something that looks alive but just as weak.

  • Snook don’t run aimlessly. They turn and go straight back to whatever they were hiding in. You’ve got a short window to react, keep them out of the roots or pilings, and stay in control. It’s a physical, technical fight, and that’s exactly why they’re so addictive to chase on the fly.
